Youth Making a Difference

Cooper student leaders are busy at work with Youth Making a Difference, a program where kids can help the community with different issues or things that they think they should make a difference in the community.

There are lots of different things that students can do. They can help raise money for the homeless. They can work at the soup kitchen. They can do something as simple as shoveling the snow for the lady across the street. So many kids are working really hard on their Youth Making a Difference project. A few groups raised money, so that they can buy presents for foster or needy kids. Isn’t it so amazing that our student leaders have such giant hearts?

Variety Show

We are very pleased to announce that this year's variety show was a big hit! More than 50 people including the stage crew were participants in this amazing event. For those of you who don’t know what the Variety Show is, it's like a huge talent show with 5th and 6th grade children who want to show the school community what they can do, or in other words their talents! To top off this article, we have a few pictures of this year's show that you will hopefully enjoy! 

Our 2014-2015 Blog Team

This year we have a group of new bloggers. We are so excited to get started. The blog team is a group of student leaders that write blog posts weekly for the student blog, Through the Eyes of a Leader. This is our first post and we are really excited! Each member of the team, introduces themselves below.

Hi my name is Hunter  and I am very happy to be on the blog team this year. I wanted to be on the bloggers team because I love writing. Ive been waiting everyday to start the bloggers team and I am very thankful.

Hi my name is Shenandoah and I am very happy to be on the blog team this year. i wanted to be on the blog team because I have seen other bloggers and they say its very fun. I like to write a lot so I decided to try to get into the blog team! I like to draw to. I am so thankful to be on the blog team!   

Hi my name is Jolei. and I’m really happy to be on the blog team this year! I like to write, so I thought this would be fun to do.I enjoy writing about things that are going on in school. It gives me a chance to see what the students in our school would do to make Cooper a better place! Our goal is to post weekly.

Hi my name is Hanna and this year I’m part of the Cooper blog team! I wanted to be a Cooper blogger because I have  experience with blogging at home and I really enjoy it! What I want to get out of being a Cooper blogger is to have a chance to share our news and upcoming events with other students and parents and even other Cooper Leaders!

Hi, my name is Tyler and I’m glad to be a part of the blogger team this year! I wanted to be on this team because I thought it would be fun to blog about how we show leadership here at Cooper! Our blog posts show the community how students at Cooper are becoming great leaders. Our goal is to post blogs weekly.

Hi my name is Lauren, I was on the blog team last year and am very happy to be on the team this year. I absolutely love writing and could write all day. It’s cool getting to explore new writing techniques. We also get to do cool things like report on what’s going on around the school. Blog team is a blast and I’m really excited for a new year of leadership blogging!

Another Fabulous Leadership Year Has Come to a Close

The end of another fabulous leadership year has come to a close. We have learned so much, met so many new people, and learned how to use the 7 Habits. Although the 6th graders are going to become Eagles at Emerson Middle School next year, we hope that they still remember all the fun times that they had at Cooper. With 6th graders moving out, our 4th graders are coming in. They have had the chance to visit Cooper and see what is in store for them in the fall. We have had so many fun opportunities at Cooper like: Career Day, Field Day, Leadership Day, Sixth Grade Camp, The Variety Show, Sixth Grade Musical, and much more. We have learned so much and have gotten so much smarter. We can match pitch with Ms. Danke and Ms. Provencher in vocal music, read musical notes with Ms. Crociata in instrumental, learn new sports with Ms. Kincaide and Ms. Schnettler in physical education, we know the proper way to paint a picture with Ms. Didomenico and Mr. Hicks in art, and we can make our own presentation with Ms. Bowling in library. In math we can find area, volume and perimeter, in social studies we can tell you about Native Americans that lived long ago or which countries have a large amount of population. We can observe animals and their ecosystem in science, and we can write to a prompt in writing. We can all summarize books we read in reading and we can tell you all the 7 Habits in order. Even though we learned so much this year, imagine what we can learn next year and the year after that. We have so much more to look forward to in our future, whether we go to a whole new school or even if we just stay at Cooper. We have really enjoyed writing about our school. It's time to meet the blog members. Emily and Colby will be moving on to 7th grade next year and we hope that Ryan and Lauren will continue to take on the role of being blog leaders. The 7 Habits

Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is officially over! Congratulations on everyone who participated! All 47 teams read seven books and went to Franklin High School to answer really hard questions about the books. A total of 24 questions were asked. The stands were filled, the teams were scared, everyone was nervous for their team. Once Mrs. Bowling asked the questions, teams had 30 seconds to talk it over. As soon as the time was up, Mrs. Bowling called a team to have a student come up to the microphone to answer. Some questions were hard, some weren’t. At the end Mrs. Bowling announced the top five teams. First place went to… The Super Sporty Readers! That team consisted of 7 girls and 2 coaches. The team members were Maddie, Megan and Cassie in Mrs. Kimball’s class, Angela in Mrs. Webster’s class, Emily in Mr. Lietz’s and Allison and Riley in Mrs. Erickson’s class. Allison and Riley also made the amazing t-shirt design for all the competitors. Their coaches were Mrs. Esker and Mrs. St. Ledger. All the teams did an amazing job! Congratulations Super Sporty Readers!

Leader in Me Symposium

Earlier this month, Cooper was a lucky school to be chosen to represent the Leader In Me in a symposium. People from all across the country came to our school to learn about the Seven Habits and the Leader In Me. They asked questions to the student panel and were able to ask the Cooper parents and teachers about stuff that kids may not have been able to answer. Some of the students were tour guides and gave the guests a tour around Cooper, and other students were chosen by their teachers to talk about some of the cool and exciting things that their class has been doing. The sixth grade vocal students performed, The Cup Song (Leader In Me version) in front of them. They did amazing. We are so lucky that our school was chosen for such a cool event like this.
